Music Therapy

At Willowcrest, every student participates in two 30-minute sessions of group music therapy per week. Music therapy is an evidence-based intervention that supports cognitive, social, emotional, motor, sensory and wellness goals. Repetition and rhythm improve memory skills such as recall and retention while strengthening auditory processing abilities, therefore increasing overall comprehension. We use music therapy to reinforce communication skills and facilitate emotional regulation. This helps children self-soothe and reduce stress. The highly collaborative aspect of music improves social interaction skills and fosters creative and cooperative connections with others.
